Another winner from Evelyn Boyett! This historical western is set in Utah. 3 brothers ride in to American Fork where the youngest has accepted a position as a Deputy Sheriff. On the way there, they had run across a stagecoach being robbed and run the robbers off. Later, Deputy Mark hears about a rash of robberies in the surrounding area.Rebecca is in a loveless marriage with a brute of a man who abuses her. Knowing how he is, the Sheriff tells Mark to ride out to Henry's ranch with him and to keep an eye out for Rebecca fearing for her safety. The storyline is about Rebecca gaining the knowledge about her circumstances and finding the courage to confront her "husband", and Mark learning how dishonest Henry is and is surprised by the Sheriff not doing his job regarding Henry and why. This was a fast paced story that kept me engaged until the end.Rebecca only wanted to loved and be loved by someone who would deserve her. But her husband Henry not only doesn't meet her expectations but he's become abusive and cynical. Mark arrives with his brothers to American Fork for a new start. He doesn't expect to fall in love for Rebecca, who is a married woman... I won't say more because I don't want to spoil the story. I'll just say it's engaging, full of mystery, suspense and sweet and clean romance!Will Rebecca find the love she desperately wants?I recommend this book to lovers of western historical romances!
I love Evelyn Boyett books I look forward to reading each and every one. This gem is set in Utah. Rebecca is in a marriage where her brute of a husband abuses her. The hero of the story is Mark who is the deputy sheriff. The story has robbers and bad guys causing all sorts of trouble so expect drama, action and a bit of danger. With all the twists in this story the ending was an unexpected surprise but totally awesome. This is a book I have no trouble recommending hope you pick it up.
I really enjoyed this story! Started reading and didn't put it down the other day until I was finished. The characters made me think of some friends in similiar circumstances. The sheriff needed to lose his badge!! I will look for other books by Ms Boyette I have Temptation at Maverick county on my computer to read next. Keep up the good clean writing!!
Fast action western from story opening to HEA epilogue for certain characters. You have to read the story to see which good guys are bad and bad guys are good. There’s even a dastardly side crime to further confuse readers. A little predictable in the end, but what romance story is not. This is an enjoyable read for those who like “clean†romance.
The story line was a very good one...thought you tied all together well.Found couple mistakes th proof readers should have caught.No doubt I will buy and read your books again.
For something so dire of circumstance, I loved the drama and the turn of events that occurred in this story. It is rare I think (since I haven’t read something of this nature in the old Western genre) to have be stuck in an unwanted marriage and actually find a surprising resolution to end it. It was awesome to see Rebecca and Mark prevail.
